Judges 12 Topo
1

And the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward and they said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thy house upon thee with fire.

2

And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon and when I called you, ye saved me not out of their hand.

3

And when I saw that ye saved me not, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Jehovah delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?

4

Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye are fugitives of Ephraim, ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, [and] in the midst of Manasseh.

5

And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. And it was so, that, when [any of] the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay

6

then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth and he said Sibboleth for he could not frame to pronounce it right: then they laid hold on him, and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim forty and two thousand.

7

And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in [one of] the cities of Gilead.

8

And after him Ibzan of Beth-lehem judged Israel.

9

And he had thirty sons and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.

10

And Ibzan died, and was buried at Beth-lehem.

11

And after him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel and he judged Israel ten years.

12

And Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.

13

And after him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.

14

And he had forty sons and thirty sons' sons, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.

15

And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekites.

1

And the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah and Jehovah delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

2

And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah and his wife was barren, and bare not.

3

And the angel of Jehovah appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

4

Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:

5

for, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son and no razor shall come upon his head for the child shall be a Nazirite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

6

Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of the angel of God, very terrible and I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:

7

but he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son and now drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing for the child shall be a Nazirite unto God from the womb to the day of his death.

8

Then Manoah entreated Jehovah, and said, Oh, Lord, I pray thee, let the man of God whom thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

9

And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.

10

And the woman made haste, and ran, and told her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the [other] day.

11

And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.

12

And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass: what shall be the ordering of the child, and [how] shall we do unto him?

13

And the angel of Jehovah said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.

14

She may not eat of anything that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing all that I commanded her let her observe.

15

And Manoah said unto the angel of Jehovah, I pray thee, let us detain thee, that we may make ready a kid for thee.

16

And the angel of Jehovah said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread and if thou wilt make ready a burnt-offering, thou must offer it unto Jehovah. For Manoah knew not that he was the angel of Jehovah.

17

And Manoah said unto the angel of Jehovah, What is thy name, that, when thy words come to pass, we may do thee honor?

18

And the angel of Jehovah said unto him, Wherefore askest thou after my name, seeing it is wonderful?

19

So Manoah took the kid with the meal-offering, and offered it upon the rock unto Jehovah: and [the angel] did wondrously, and Manoah and his wife looked on.

20

For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of Jehovah ascended in the flame of the altar: and Manoah and his wife looked on and they fell on their faces to the ground.

21

But the angel of Jehovah did no more appear to Manoah or to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of Jehovah.

22

And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

23

But his wife said unto him, If Jehovah were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt-offering and a meal-offering at our hand, neither would he have showed us all these things, nor would at this time have told such things as these.

24

And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and Jehovah blessed him.

25

And the Spirit of Jehovah began to move him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

Mark 7.1-23 Topo
1

And there are gathered together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem,

2

and had seen that some of his disciples ate their bread with defiled, that is, unwashen, hands.

3

(For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands diligently, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders

4

and [when they come] from the market-place, except they bathe themselves, they eat not and many other things there are, which they have received to hold, washings of cups, and pots, and brasen vessels.)

5

And the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with defiled hands?

6

And he said unto them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoreth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me.

7

But in vain do they worship me, Teaching [as their] doctrines the precepts of men.

8

Ye leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men.

9

And he said unto them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition.

10

For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death:

11

but ye say, If a man shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is Corban, that is to say, Given [to God]

12

ye no longer suffer him to do aught for his father or his mother

13

making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things ye do.

14

And he called to him the multitude again, and said unto them, Hear me all of you, and understand:

15

there is nothing from without the man, that going into him can defile him but the things which proceed out of the man are those that defile the man.

16

[If any man hath ears to hear, let him hear.]

17

And when he was entered into the house from the multitude, his disciples asked of him the parable.

18

And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Perceive ye not, that whatsoever from without goeth into the man, [it] cannot defile him

19

because it goeth not into his heart, but into his belly, and goeth out into the draught? [This he said], making all meats clean.

20

And he said, That which proceedeth out of the man, that defileth the man.

21

For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,

22

covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness:

23

all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man.
